SEAWATER INTAKE and OUTFALL BOX CULVERT INSTALLATION

Precast concrete box culverts are common use as seawater intake and outfall. There are many advantages and disadvantages of using the precast box culverts. Here I just want to explain the disadvantage only. The disadvantages are mostly just about transporting the box culvert to the site location from the fabrication yard onto transport barge, but many option can be carried out to solve the problem such as if you have a special equipment like the U-flat barge equipped with gantry cranes, directly taking the box culvert to material of loading jetty and the barge also installing it. Another option is typical with U-flat barge, but using crane barge instead of using gantry cranes which is the box culvert loaded onto deck of the barge. The 3rd option are using conventional method which is the transport barge is used to deliver the box culvert to site location which is the erection crane barge is standby on site location as shown in some sketch drawings below. (By using the 3rd option, we can save time). But the 3rd option still have a problem how to place the box culvert onto transport barge.  There are some option I know how to placing the box culvert onto the transport barge. The sketch drawings below as one of the method how to placing it.
